Fonds consists of personal papers; ministerial papers; reference. Photographic material depicts the political career of Jay Waldo Monteith such as: his electoral campaigns; his public activities as Minster of National Health and Welfare, 1957-1963; his participation in conferences in Belgium, Iran, and the United States; his hosting roles during Royal Visits in 1958 and 1959; the Cabinet of Prime Minister John G. Diefenbaker, 1957; the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway, 1959; the Flag Committee; retirement party of J.W. Monteith, 1972; photographs of Monteith with such personalities as John G. Diefenbaker, Davidson Dunton, Robert Stanfield, and Dr. Charles Best.

Monteith, J. Waldo, 1903-1981 : Jay Waldo Monteith, Member of Parliament and chartered accountant, was born in 1903 at Stratford Ont., and received his education at Stratford and from the University of Toronto. He returned to Stratford as a chartered accountant.

Monteith was an alderman and then Mayor of Stratford in 1944-1945. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, he sought election in Perth riding in 1953. He was a Member of Parliament, representing Perth, from 1953 until his retirement in 1972, serving as Minister of National Health and Welfare, 1957-1963. He was a member of the Committee to choose a Canadian flag and on the Income Development Program Caucus Committee.
