Fonds consists of correspondence; letterbooks; legal documents; memoranda and petitions; financial records, receipts and accounts; printed material.

Fonds also contains photographs, ca. 1860-ca. 1870, are portraits of Alex W. Graham and of James Miller Lyle. There is a map of the Metropolitan Railway (Southern Connecting Lines), London, England, ca. 1860s; a map of the Quebec City to Lac St. Jean Railway Line, ca. 1880; and a surveyor's plan of downtown St. John New Brunswick, ca. 1860s, showing streets, property and frontal footage of the various lots in St. John.

Fonds consists of three maps, one of the Metropolitan Railway, London, England; a map of the Lac St. Jean Railway Lines, Quebec; and a surveyor's plan of downtown St. John, New Brunswick.

Tilley, Samuel Leonard, Sir, 1818-1896 : Samuel Leonard Tilley, Member of Parliament, public official, druggist, was born in Gagetown, N.B. Initially a druggist, he became a member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, 1850 and served as Provincial Secretary and Premier of several provincial ministries prior to Confederation. A Temperance advocate and a promoter of railway development as well as of Confederation, he was a delegate to the Charlottetown and Quebec conferences.

In 1867 he was elected to the House of Commons and held several Cabinet posts in Sir John A. Macdonald's ministries. He was Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick twice, 1873-1878 and 1885-1893.
