1 map.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of ministerial files relating primarily to the Fisheries portfolio and matters of concern to Prince Edward Island, 1957-1963; cabinet files, 1957-1963; subject files on departmental affairs, 1951-1976; reference files, concerning such subjects as the Canadian flag, the status of women and urban development, 1964-1975; speeches given by MacLaren while Premier of Prince Edward Island, 1979-1981; and speeches and correspondence concerning the fisheries and the R.A.F. Escape Society (vols. 43 and 44).
The fonds contains photographs related to the career of the Hon. John Angus MacLean as M.P. for Queens, P.E.I., and Minister of Fisheries; and as a Wing Commander (Reserve) R.C.A.F.; portraits of P.E.I. candidates in the 1965 federal election; and Maclean accompanied by Robert Stansfield, n.d.
Included in the fonds is a poster illustrating a potential new Canadian flag, "The Four and Ten", 1964.
Also included in the fonds is a map showing place names and transportation routes along with a distance chart and traffic signs of Venezuela, 1960.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:MacLean, J. Angus, 1914-2000 : The Hon. J. Angus MacLean, born at Lewes, P.E.I., was educated at Mount Allison University and the University of New Brunswick. A farmer, Angus McLean also served in the R.C.A.F., 1939-1947, and retired as a wing commander.
He was an unsuccessful candidate in the federal elections of 1945 and 1949. First elected to the House of Commons at a by-election on 25 June 1951 for Queen's, P.E.I., he was re-elected in every federal election through to and including 1974. He served as Minister of Fisheries in the government of John Diefenbaker from 1957 to 1963. He resigned from the House of Commons in 1975 upon his election as provincial leader of the Progressive Conservative party in Prince Edward Island. He was elected to the P.E.I. legislature in a by-election in 1976.Additional information:General note:Received in 1976, 1982, 1984 and 1993 from the Hon. J.
