Fonds consists of selected letters, memorials, reports, accounts and other documents relating to British forces and strongholds in Canada, and to the campaigns of 1775-1782. A facsimile of a letter from George Washington to the Hon. Jos. Jones, 11 February 1783, 5 pages, is also available.

Washington, George, 1732-1799 : George Washington soldier and statesman, served under Braddock during the Seven Year's War, and became the commander of the colonial forces during the War of Independence. He was originally a Virginia planter, and after serving as first President of the United States, 1789-1797, he retired to his estate.

Facsimile of letter from George Washington to the Hon. Jos. Jones, 1783, received in 1985 from Julie P. Cox of the Vermont State Archives through the courtesy of Robert S. Gordon of Ottawa.
A calendar of the papers, in chronological order with a notation of the location for each item, was published by the Library of Congress in 1906 and 1915.
