Anti-Confederation League of the Maritime Provinces : In 1866 a group of Haligonian businessmen who objected to Confederation formed the Anti-Confederation League and induced Joseph Howe to be their spokesman. The group feared that Nova Scotia would be politically and economically exploited for the enrichment of the Canadas.
