2.35 m of textual records: photocopies.Langue du document :anglaisPortée et contenu :Fonds consists of microfilmed Edward Ellice and family correspondence and papers, relating to the North American interests of the Hon. Edward Ellice, Sr., and papers of his father, Alexander Ellice and son, Edward Ellice, Jr. In addition, there are land records; diary of Jane Ellice, wife of Edward Ellice Jr.; Ellice-Rose correspondence, and Ellice-Richardson letter.
Fonds also consists of art works by Katherine Ellice which depict: sailors, passengers and cabins on the H.M.S. Hastings, and the first view of Quebec from the ship; views of and around Katherine Jane Ellice's father-in-law's seigneury at Beauharnois and several interior scenes; portraits of various people including Lady Emily and Lady Mary Lambton (daughters of Lord Durham), William Colbourne, Joseph Papineau (father of Louis-Joseph), Mrs. Eglantine Balfour ("Tina", her sister), St. Regis Indians and a self-portrait (her image reflected in a mirror); image of rebels at Beauharnois. Also included are portrait miniatures of Ellice family members painted by Sir William Charles Ross (1794/95-1860) include the Right Honourable Edward Ellice (1781-1863), his son Edward Ellice Jr. (1810-1880), and Katherine Jane Ellice, née Balfour (ca. 1814-1864), who was the wife of Edward Ellice Jr.Provenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Ellice, Edward, 1781-1863 (family) : The Hon. Edward Ellice Sr., 1781-1863, politician and businessman, was the son of Alexander Ellice, 1743-1805. He pursued a political career in England and a business career in Canada. He was director of the Hudson's Bay Company and partner in the firm of Inglis, Ellice & Co. of Montreal. His son, Edward Ellice Jr., 1810-1880, pursued a political and diplomatic career in England, including acting as private secretary to Lord Durham in Canada, 1838. Edward Ellice Jr. was the only son of Ellice Sr., and was private secretary to Lord Durham in Russia (1832) and Canada (1838).
