The North America and West Indies Station was organized into Divisions, including one for Bermuda and Halifax, and others for Barbadoes, Jamaica, and the United States. The National Archives of Canada has acquired microfilm selections of material relating to Canada from 126 volumes of ADM 128. These excerpts concern all aspects of the Royal Navy's activities in British North American waters. This material is located on microfilm reels B-658, B-2347 to B-2366, B-2456 to B-2489, B-2921 and B-2978.
The pre-1867 records have been kept as organized by the contemporary secretaries to the commanders-in-chief; they are arranged according to Divisions and include seven volumes arising from the American Civil War, dated 1860-1867, volumes 28, 56-61. This material is located on microfilm reels B-2347 to B-2365.
The Bermuda-Halifax Division includes correspondence relating to the protection of the Canadian frontier against the Fenians, 1866-1867, volumes 24 and 25, as well as numerous other subjects, such as fisheries, pertaining to Canada. This material is located on microfilm reels B-2353 to B-2360.
From 1867, records of all Divisions are brought together in a "New Series", which includes an accumulation of correspondence, reports, conventions, regulations, etc., relating to the Newfoundland fisheries, 1871 to 1912. Included are copies of letters from the Admiralty circulated to the commodore at Newfoundland, 1898-1903, volumes 105, 110; Newfoundland Royal Naval Reserve, 1899-1909, volumes 109, 112; correspondence, Newfoundland, 1907-1909, volume 111; reports on ice movements and currents off the coast of Newfoundland and in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, 1889, 1891, volume 124; Newfoundland press clippings relating to the fisheries and HM ships, 1906-1907, volume 149; Board of Trade report on the condition and prospects of British trade in Newfoundland, 1908, volume 150; instructions and index to correspondence, senior officer on the coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador, 1909, volume 153.
