Item is a land grant issued to William Thomson for the east half of lot No. 29 in the first concession from the Ottawa River, Nepean. The property for which the grant was issued is known as "Maplelawn" and is now a National Capital Commission heritage building.

Thomson, William : William Thomson emigrated to Nepean, Upper Canada in 1817 with his wife, three sons and six daughters. Arriving in Canada with little money, the Thomson's were allotted about 400 acres of land that extended from the present Carling Avenue to the Ottawa River. Their's were the first farm and frame building on Richmond Road. Maplelawn, the stately manor house at 529 Richmond Road, was built for William Thompson in 1831-34. The elder William Thompson would die in 1833 while his two sons, William and John, worked the land as successful farmers and lumbermen. Davidson, Michael. "A History of Westboro." 12 September 1998.
