1 film reel (7 min).Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of the following series of textual records: biographical and personal material, professional affiliations (volume 1); articles, papers and speeches (volumes 1-2, 19); Italian projects (volume 3); public projects (volumes 11-12); desk diaries (volumes 13-17); and scrapbooks (volumes 17-19).
The fonds contains photographic materials, 1935-1972, depicting architectural projects and urban developments designed by E.G. Faludi in Canada, Italy, and Brazil.
The fonds also includes architectural drawings and maps of developments with which Faludi was involved as well as a film, n.d., Thorncrest Village, about a neighbourhood unit designed by E.G. Faludi.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Faludi, Eugenio Giacomo, 1896-1981 : Eugenio Faludi, architect, town planner, engineer, was born in Budapest, grew up in Italy and received his doctorate in Architecture from the University of Rome in 1929. After practising as an architect and town planner in Italy, he moved in 1939 to England and in 1940 to Canada, where he was guest lecturer in Town Planning at McGill and the University of Toronto, 1940-1942. He became consulting planner and member of the Technical Committee of the Toronto City Planning Board, and was in charge of preparation of the first master plan for the Toronto metropolitan area, 1942-1943.
In 1944 he established Town Planning Consultant Limited (name changed to E.G. Faludi and Associates Limited, 1971), and was responsible for the preparation of planning studies for many municipalities and private firms, primarily in metropolitan Toronto and other parts of Ontario, until his retirement in 1977.
Faludi was President of the Town Planning Institute of Canada, 1954-1955, and member of a committee which reactivated that organization in 1952. He published many articles and papers on town planning.
