Fonds consists of textual records arranged in the following series: National executive files; Conferences; Financial records; Membership files; Subject files; and Publications files.

The fonds also contains numerous photographs documenting various CARFAC activities, 1974-1982, and sound and video recordings of interviews, speeches by Canadian artists, and meetings including CARFAC's national conferences, 1976-1986.

Canadian Artists' Representation : The Canadian Artists Representation/le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) grew out of a concern for the recognition of artists' copyright, led by a group of Ontario artists including Jack Chambers, Tony Urquhart, Kim Ondaatje, Greg Curnoe and John Boyle. Its first national conference was held in 1971, when it was formally established. CARFAC became the umbrella organization for provincial branches and participated in the national debate on such issues as copyright and artists' rights, freedom from censorship, public funding, fair taxation, and Status of the Artist legislation. It lobbied for the payment of exhibition fees to living artists, resulting in revisions to the requirements for Canada Council's Program Assistance Grants to Public Art Galleries; for revisions to the Canadian Copyright Act; and for the Status of the Artist Legislation. In 1990, it created the Canadian Artists Representation Copyright Collective Inc. (CARCC), a copyright collective that licenses and administers copyright for visual and media artists in Canada. CARFAC is a member of the Canadian Conference of the Arts and maintains working relationships with other organizations including le Regroupment des artistes en arts visuels du Québec (RAAV) and CANCOPY. It draws its membership from its provincial affiliate organizations and offers workshops and informational publications, as well as representing its membership at the national level.
