Fonds consists of textual records arranged in the following 14 series: minutes and annual reports; research and evaluation of CGIT program; conferences; leadership training; camps and camping; anniversaries; organization materials; history; printed materials; visitors' books; subject files; financial; scrapbooks; and CGIT weeks. The documents cover a period of seventy years, starting from the very beginning of the CGIT and offer a good overview of the association's management and activities through those years.

Fonds consists of one series of prints and drawing illustrating camps and fund-raising activities, 1917-1985.

Fonds also consists of sound recordings of Canadian Girls in Training conferences, anniversaries, workshops and Christmas radio commercials, 1961-1968. Also included is the soundtrack for the documentary The header produced by Canadian Girls in Training, as part of the series Your Place in Canadian Girls in Training, [ca. 1963-1965].

Fonds consists of one series of photographs, 1913-1984, depicting various activities of Canadian Girls in Training across Canada and around the world; portraits and group photos of officials and leaders.

Canadian Girls in Training : The Canadian Girls in Training program grew out of the deliberations of the National Advisory Committee for Cooperation in Girls' Work, established in 1915 by the YWCA of Canada, the Sunday School Associations and the Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, and Methodist churches. It was inspired in part by the Tuxis Movement for boys and reflected the desire of the founding members for a program that would lead Canadian adolescent girls into a closer relationship with the Protestant churches. After two years of deliberations, the Committee recommended a program in which small groups of Sunday School girls would meet during the week under the leadership of their Sunday School teacher. Club activities were grouped under the four standards: physical, intellectual, spiritual and social. CGIT was a uniquely Canadian alternative to existing girls' movements such as the Girl Guides and the Camp Fire Girls.

The CGIT Movement was launched in the period 1917-1919 by a series of provincial and regional camps and conferences held across the country. In the following years the camps contributed both to the development and the appeal of the Movement - the First National Leaders' Camp was held in 1921 and the First National Camp for senior Girls in 1952. Canada's centennial year was observed by a government funded camper exchange project. For the first few years of its existence, CGIT was funded and staffed by the YWCA of Canada. In 1920, it was taken over by the Religious Education Council of Canada, and in 1947 it became a branch of the Department of Christian Education of the newly-formed Canadian Council of Churches. In 1940, CGIT members celebrated the first national Christmas vesper service. The proceeds of this annual event provide the bulk of the financial support for the movement.
