Fonds consists of records relating to the Victoria and Grey Trust Company. They are divided into six series: Branch files; Subject files, which are comprised of material on various corporate matters as well as a history of the company; Minutes; Annual reports and financial statements; Absorbed companies; and Predecessor companies. The fonds also contains photographs relating to the Victoria Grey Trust Company, such as openings of branches and offices throughout Canada and photographic portraits of directors and officers. Also included are photographs depicting Benjamin V. Levinter and family and photographs relating to openings and board meetings of Unity Bank of Canada.

Victoria and Grey Trust Company : The Victoria and Grey Trust Company was created in 1950, by a merger of the Victoria Trust and Savings Company, and the Grey & Bruce Trust & Savings Company. The former company, chartered as the Victoria Loan and Savings Company in Lindsay in 1895, became a trust company in 1923, and by 1950 had branches in Lindsay, Belleville and Cannington. The latter company, founded in Owen Sound in 1889 as the Owen Sound, Grey and Bruce Loan and Saving Company, changed its name in 1897 to the Grey and Bruce Loan Company and merged in 1926 with the Owen Sound Loan and Savings Company to form the Grey & Bruce Trust & Savings Company. By 1950, the firm operated branches in Owen Sound and Peterborough.

During the 1960's and 1970's, the new firm undertook an aggressive program of expansion. A merger with British Mortgage & Trust Company in 1965, brought 15 additional branches to the firm, purchase of Lambton Trust Company in 1969 another six. The Metropolitan Trust Company, was absorbed in 1979-1980. At the same time, the firm continued to establish new branches, most of them in rural Ontario. In 1974, the firm began expanding into western Canada with the establishment of a branch in Edmonton.

By 1982, the firm had ten branches in the four western provinces along with another three in Quebec. In 1982, the firm had a total of 88 branches and total assets of $3.8 billion. In 1984, the firm merged with National Trust Company to form National Victoria and Grey Trustco.
