Fonds consists of personal papers of Black community leader and activist, Dr. Clarence Bayne of Montreal consisting of personal correspondence, notes, essays and manuscripts, briefs, presentations, submissions and minutes of meetings relating to his extensive involvement in the affairs of and on behalf of the Black community and its organizational life from the time of his arrival in Canada in 1960 to the present. Included are files relating to the Trinidad and Tobago Association, the National Black Coalition and the Negro Community Centre of Montreal.

The fonds also consists of photographs pertaining to Dr. Clarence s. Bayne and his activities in the Afro-Canadian community, including portraits and activities of participants at the 1987 Conference on Racism, portraits and activities of participants at a Black Theatre Workshop/Union United Church event, and portraits and activities of participants at the National Black Coalition of Canada Conference, Montreal, 1971.

Bayne, Clarence S : Dr. Clarence S. Bayne, educator and community leader, was born in Trinidad and Tobago. He came to Canada in 1955. He studied economics at the University of British Columbia and McGill University. He is currently a professor of management at Concordia University. Among his many community involvements, he was a founder and president of the Trinidad and Tobago Association, 1964-1965; a founder and past vice-president of the Quebec Board of Black Educators, 1970 to the present; a founding member of the National Black Coalition of Canada (1969) and national president, 1970-1971; founder and president of The Black Studies Center, 1971-1982 and its executive director, 1985 to the present; a founder and president of the Black Theatre Workshop of Montreal, 1970-1980 and its executive producer from 1980 to the present; and a founding member of the Black Community Council of Quebec. He was manager of the successful Trinidad and Tobago Pavillion display of Art and Culture at Man and His World, 1969.
