On y trouve aussi six documents concernant la Commission des Biens des Jésuites, 1812-1855. Originals, 8 pages.

Jesuit Estates : In 1773, the Society of Jesus was abolished by Pope Clement XIV. On the death of the last former Jesuit in Canada, in 1800, the Jesuit Estates passed to the Crown. The Society of Jesus was re-established in 1814 by Pope Pius VI and in 1842 its members returned to Canada. The question of the Jesuit estates was reopened and controversy continued until the Mercier adminstration indemnified the order in 1889.
