Fonds consists of material which documents Hamel's involvement with the Congregation of St. Paul and which demonstrates his involvement and contribution to Hamel Theatre Productions and the Canadian Playwrights Association. Fonds also includes Hamel's theatre scripts, his curriculum vitae, his diaries and other prose writing as well as an autobiographical scrapbook and copies of the CSP World News and Le Régional to which he contributed.

Hamel, Guy François Claude, 1935- : Writer, religious leader.

Guy François Claude Hamel was born in Montreal. He spent some years in Winnipeg, where he first formed the sect, the Congregation of St. Paul, before moving to Toronto in 1962, where he established the Metropolitan Children's Home and solicited support for a projected orphanage, Domaine St. Paul, at Cordova Lake near Peterborough. He was ordained a priest in the Old Roman Catholic Church in 1964 by Bishop Pavlik, proclaimed CSP World News. He was convicted of fraud in 1970 in connection with the Domaine St. Paul orphanage. He subsequently founded Hamel Theatre Productions, which produced a number of his own plays in Toronto during the early 1970's, and tried to establish a Canadian Playwrights Association. He moved to Ottawa in 1974.
