The papers consist mostly of certificates of discharge from the various corps to which Mr. Secker belonged. There is also one newspaper clipping of 1953 relating to his career. The medals have been deposited with the Archives medal collection. Originals, 8 pages.

Secker, Henry James, 1876-1953 : Musician soldier

Papers of Henry James Secker (1876-1953), musician and soldier, who joined the Somerset Light Infantry in 1891. He served with this unit for 12 years including the campaigns of the South African War. He later joined the South African Constabulary and served with it until 1906. In 1912, he came to Canada as a member of the band of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. In 1934 he joined the Governor General's Foot Guards and retired after the Second World War. He served for five more years with the Canadian Corps of Commissionnaires. Mr. Secker was awarded both King's and Queen's Medals after the African War.
