Fonds consists of correspondence, notes, reports, and scrapbooks relating to naval expeditions on the HMCS Labrador and HMCS Cape Scott, including daily orders for HMCS Labrador for 26 June to 11 October 1957 as well as the manuscript for "White Plumes Astern."

Fonds also contains photographs of Motor Torpedo Boat 48 of the Royal Navy, ca. 1942, (officer on the bridge is Sub-Lieutenant C.A. Law); personnel of Motor Torpedo Boat 48 after engaging the German ships Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, and Prinz Eugen in the English Channel, February 1942; Lieutenant C.A. Law and Sub-Lieutenant H. Teekman, H.M.S. Wasp, Dover, England, 1942. Additional photographs show aspects of the career of C.A. Law, R.C.N., ca. 1944-1965, Motor Torpedo Boat operations in the English Cnannel, 1944-1945; R.C.N. operations on the West Coast, 1945-1954; activities of H.M.C.S. Labrador, 1955-1957; and the Canadian Medical Expedition to Easter Island, 1964-1965.

Also included are black and white illustrations by Charles Anthony Law for the publication "White Plumes Astern", which documents Charles Law's experiences as a Motor Torpedo Boat commander in the English Channel during the second World War, particularly in 1943-1944, and on D-Day. Some illustration titles are "Kitchen Craft", "459 Taken by Tow After Being Hit", and "Manoeuvres in Front of Dover".

Law, C. Anthony (Charles Anthony), 1916-1996 : Charles Anthony Francis (Tony) Law, naval officer and artist, was born at London, England on 15 October 1916. While attending the University of Ottawa, he studied art under Franklin Brownell and F.H. Varley at the Ottawa Art Association; later he worked under Percival Tudor-Hart in Quebec City. Law held his first one man show in 1937 and in 1939 he was awarded the Jessie Dow Prize for landscape in oils. Law joined the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps as a lieutenant in 1937 and served with that unit until March 1940 when he transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve.

Shortly after his transfer, Law joined the Motor Torpedo Boat Command of the Royal Navy and was given command of various motor torpedo boats. In 1944, he was appointed senior officer of the 29th Canadian Motor Torpedo Boat Flotilla and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his part in the Normandy landing of June of that year. Law transferred to the permanent Royal Canadian Navy in 1946. From that time until his retirement in 1966, he served on land, in Naval Headquarters in Ottawa and in the Department of the Navy, Military Sea Transportation Service in New York, and at sea, as second-in-command of H.M.C.S. Labrador and in command of H.M.C.S. Cape Scott. In the latter capacity, Law took part in the Medical Expedition to Easter Island, 1964 to 1965.

Throughout his naval career, Law continued painting. He was appointed official Naval War Artist in 1943, 1945 and 1946. In 1952, he became a member of the Nova Scotia Society of Artists and was made a Nova Scotia Artist by that Society in 1956. From 1969 to 1970, Law was the Chairman of the Atlantic Provinces Art Circuit, and in 1973 he was elected as a member to the Board of Governors of the Canadian Conference of the Arts. Commander Law is presently Artist-in-Residence at St. Mary's University at Halifax, Nova Scotia.
