1 audio disc (50 min).Language of material:EnglishAdded language of material:English, FrenchScope and content:Fonds consists of minutes of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, CPA/APC Bulletin, annual general meeting programs and minutes and membership lists. Files on CPA/APC formation, submissions to government inquiries, Canadian mental health facilities and miscellaneous talks and papers. Also a small amount of material on Louis Riel, W.H. Jackson, Van Jaureg and Nissl. In addition, there is a microfilm copy of minutes of meetings of Commissioners of the New Brunswick Provincial Hospital, St. John, N.B., 1905-1916. Microfilmed material is located on reel M-4600.
The fonds contains photographs used in the following exhibitions: Psychiatry in B.C., 1964; Psychiatry in Saskatchewan, 1968; and Psychiatry in Canada, 1971. The fonds also contains a photo album entitled "A Pictorial History of Provincial Hospital", Saint John, N.B.; and a portrait of Dr. Campbell Myers, and Dr. A.B. Stokes.
Sound recording consists of an audio documentary entitled Clarence Meredith Hincks 1885-1964 a recollection, produced by the CBC Project 65, 1965.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Canadian Psychiatric Association : The Canadian Psychiatric Association/Association des psychiatres du Canada, a professional association, is a national voluntary professional association for psychiatrists. It is composed of medical doctors who have specialized in psychiatry. The CPA/APC is dedicated to insuring the highest possible standard of professional practice in Canada. Working with provincial psychiatric bodies the CPA/APC helps set professional standards and psychiatric education as well as promoting research.
The CPA/APC publishes the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry / Revue canadien psychiatrie as well as a bimonthly Bulletin.Additional information:General note:The archival material was deposited between 1972 and 1984 and acquired in 1994 from the Canadian Psychiatric Association, Ottawa.
In 1994-1995 the non CPA/APC printed material was returned to the donor and a new inventory description and finding aid were done.
