The UNYF is a self-governing organization affiliated with the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada, incorporated by federal statute, 1 June 1950. A non-profit, non-sectarian organization, it is based on humanitarian principles. It strives to involve and organize young Canadians of Ukrainian ancestry to educate them to be conscious of their Ukrainian heritage and their role and contribution to Canadian society. It promotes the research and dissemination of Ukrainian culture, developing and contributing the Ukrainian Canadian culture to a multicultural Canada.
It actively espouses the cause of freedom and nationhood of Ukraine, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, self-determination of nations as set forth in the Charter of the United Nations and opposes ideologies which lead to the destruction of freedom of the individual.
In 1961 the Ukrainian name was amended from Molod Ukrayinski Nationalisty (literally: Young Ukrainian Nationalists) to Molod Ukrayinskoho Natsionalnoho Obyednannya (Ukrainian) National Youth Federation) to conform to the English name - UNYF - which had been employed since the organization's inception. The UNYF has branches in most of Canada's provinces. The National office has been located in Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Toronto.Additional information:General note:Received in 1972 from the National Executive, Ukrainian Youth Federation of Canada.
