Fonds documents Arnoti's work on an automated mail sorting system for the Canadian Post Office, 1955-59 and his design work for Levy Associates Co. and Northern Electric Co., 1963-67. Also includes business records for B. Arnoti Custom Design Development Engineering and projects undertaken for Canada Post and Ottawa area companies, 1986-93, and subject files for Arnoti's design for linkage and power systems, post office automation patents, the U.S. Post Office and other files.

Fonds also consists of cartoons relating to the electronic mail sorting project at Canada Post. 1 is by Artnoti, 2 are by Ted [Gumowski] and 2 by unknown artists.

Fonds also consists of photographs of Arnoti's life and career.

Fonds also consists of technical drawings designed and drafted by Arnoti from 1954 to 1990. The drawings consist primarily of a coding desk, reader and printer, inking unit, parcel sorter, binney dumper, pivoting deflector, Plessey Gauging Unit, container carrier, sortation table, LSM mechanisms, processing stress simulator, dual belt system, omnisort tagging tester, moistening device, Verval 440 Roll Press, and peel test and mounting fixtures prepared for Canada Post, either as an employee or on contract. Other technical projects include a wire flattening and cutting tool and a pellet soldering fixture for Sprague Electric of North Adams, Mass.; a work bench for the Multi Arms Safety Lock Co.; a bevel gear and shaft and suction box assembly for the Millimeter Machine Shop; a window chassis for Beacon Opticals & Precision Materials; and various equipment for Electro Physical Instruments. Independent projects include a pedal powered vehicle.

Arnoti, Bela, 1920-1996 : Bela Arnoti was born Yugoslavia but was raised and educated in Hungary. He worked in various engineering firms before being drafted into the Hungarian air force. After the war he worked for several engineering companies in Germany. In 1951 he came to Canada with his family and worked in Montreal and Granby before joining the Research & Development Laboratories of the Post Office Dept. in Ottawa in 1955.

Under Maurice Levy, Arnoti worked on designing an automated mail sorting system. When the project was cancelled in 1959, Arnoti went to work in New Hampshire. He came back to Ottawa to work for Levy Associates Co. Ltd. on automated letter sorting machines for the US Post Office, 1963-65. After working for Northern Electric Co., he was again an employee of Canada Post Corp. working in mechanical design, 1967-85. After his retirement, Arnoti created B. Arnoti Custom Design-Development Engineering to carry out design and development contracts. Most of his work was for Canada Post but he also worked for a number of local Ottawa companies. Bela Arnoti died as the result of an accident in May 1996.
