Major factors of his personal life include education, the Presbyterian Church, the Arab World, Prince Edward Island and the Maritimes and writing (volumes 1-131).Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Macquarrie, Heath, 1919-2002 : Heath Macquarrie, professor, Member of Parliament, Senator, was a professor of political science at several universities including McGill and Mount Allison. He has been involved with the Canadian Diabetes Association, Greater Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce, United Nations Assoc. of Canada, Presbyterian Church Committee on International Affairs, Canadian Human Rights Foundation and the Canadian Bureau for International Education. He is the author of numerous articles and books including "The Conservative Party" and "Red tory blues".
Heath Macquarrie was first elected to the House of Commons from Prince Edward Island for the Progressive Conservative Party in 1957. He was re-elected in 1958, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1968, 1972 and 1974. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to Secretary of State for External Affairs in 1962. He was summoned to the Senate by the Right Hon. Joe Clark, 3rd October 1979. He held the appointment of Deputy Chair, Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, 1979 and 1984.Additional information:General note:Donated by Mr. Heath N. Macquarrie in 1979-1988, and 1994.Arrangement note:There was not any usable original order in this fonds, which came in 14 accessions. An artificial arrangement had to be imposed.
