Fonds consists of three reels of microfilm of the records of the Federation of Canadian Artists held by the Queen's University Archives. Queen's University has arranged the material into four series: Correspondence, General Records, Regional Records, and Additions. Material is located on microfilm reels M-9251, M-9252, and M-9253.

Federation of Canadian Artists : The Federation of Canadian Artists was created in 1941 after a conference at Queen's University in June 1941 had identified the need for a national organization to represent Canadian artists. André Biéler, who had organized the conference, was the Federation's first president. Membership in the Federation was not limited to professional artists but included amateurs and others with an interest in art. Its objective was to promote art and to make it an integral part of Canadian life. Some of its early activities included lobbying the federal government to include artists in the war effort and lobbying to create community art centres across the country as war memorials.

The Federation was organized on a regional basis with each branch having its own executive. The chairs of the regions served as members of the National Council which was responsible for matters of policy and finance. The Federation declined as a national body during the 1960s when it no longer reflected the needs of professional artists. However, some of the regional organizations, most notably the British Columbia branch, have remained active.
