14 mapsLanguage of material:EnglishScope and content:Series consists of memoranda and notes which originated in either the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), or from files stored at Laurier House. The files cover a wide range of subjects and include memoranda from the Privy Council Office, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), government departments, cabinet ministers as well as House of Commons briefing notes, speeches and newspaper clippings. Cabinet minutes, conclusions and memoranda for the years 1939-1948 are also located in this series.
Researchers should note that due to the artificial nature of the series, it should be used in conjunction with the Primary series correspondence series (J1), particularly if researchers wish to approximate the contents of the original PMO subject files.
The memoranda and notes (along with some correspondence) are arranged in subject files within four chronological periods: 1887-1921, 1922-1932, 1933-1939 and 1940-1950. Some additional material, including the cabinet documents are located at the end of the series.
The series also includes photographs from "The Times" of the interior of house at No. 12 Upper Brook St., London, England, considered as permanent residence of the Canadian High Commissioner, January 1948; photos of various plaques erected by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. There are also photographs depicting damage to oriental business establishments as a result of the anti-Asiatic ritos, Vancouver, B.C., Sept. 7, 1907; and photos of auxiliary firefighting barges, Vancouver, B.C., by Steffens-Colmer.
The series also consists of 13 maps pertaining to training schools, depots and recruiting centres established under the British Commonweath Air Training Plan and a map showing proposed Prince Rupert Terrace Road.Additional information:General note:Accession 1974-438 NPC: The images were loaned to the National Archives of Canada and copied.
