Series contains files relating to Ken Gass's work as artistic director (2 periods : 1970 to 1979 and from 1997 to 2012), managing director, producer and playwright, along with files pertaining to administrative and financial matters, dramaturgy files, production files, submitted manuscripts and typescripts of plays by Canadian playwrights, press clippings and promotional material, files on the Canadian Theatre Centre, the Canadian Writer's Guild, George Brown College, League of Three (Free) Theatres and the Playwrights Co-op.

The series is divided into three sub-series : Factory Theatre Lab files: 1970 to 1979; Factory Theatre files: 1997 to 2012 and Factory Theatre play scripts sub-series.

General note:

Founded in 1970, Factory Theatre Lab Toronto was one of the first Canadian theatres dedicated exclusively to Canadian works. In 1973 it presented a festival of plays in London, England, and in the same year it opened a western branch in Calgary, Factory Theatre West, which has since folded. Factory Theatre Lab is currently known as Factory Theatre.
