This file contains data collected during a survey of Canadian archives in the summer and fall of 1978. The survey was carried out by the Consultative Group on Canadian Archives who reported to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The purpose of the survey was twofold: (1) assess the extent of archival holdings in all types of archival institutions and (2) identify the needs of archives as a basis for SSHRC support for archival institutions.
