Series consists of records of the regional and local records documenting the activities of various affiliates of the Finnish Organization of Canada and its predecessors. The District Committees were established to coordinate activities of the locals within given regions. The records of the Finnish Society in Toronto (society Local No. 1) form a complete unit. This was the first local association of Finns in this country for purposes other than a church congregation or temperance society. Included also, are records from many other locals across Canada, providing a significant source of documentation on the early movement of many Finns to organize secularized cultural societies as well as on the development of these societies as locals of the Finnish Socialist Organization of Canada and its successors. The records for most of these locals are rather fragmentary.
