Robert Hamilton Hubbard collection [graphic, philatelic records]

This series contains drafts of articles, lectures and addresses by Dr. Hubbard with related correspondence, reprints of published articles, reviews of articles and books, newspaper clippings, manuscripts of material edited by Hubbard, research material for exhibitions, lectures and articles, photographs and postcards of artwork and a card index of artists and their works. Subjects include French, British, American, European and Oriental art, Canadian art and architecture, French Canadian sculpture, the bishops of Newfoundland and Bermuda, the Citadel, the Governor General and Government House, viceregal influences, and the National Gallery of Canada. Correspondents include Robertson Davies, H.O. McCurry, William Townsend, Alan Jarvis, Anne Savage and Moncrieff Williamson. Scripts for a 1948 interview of Dr. Hubbard by Joan McInnes of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and a 1961 broadcast on the "Massey Medals for Architecture" exhibit at the National Gallery can be found in this series. Of note also are addresses on the artist Goodridge Roberts and patron of the arts Vincent Massey, as well as tributes to Jean Boggs, Stephen Vickers and Alex Colville. Note that photocopied research material dating back to 1924 is included in this series.

Photographs consist of views of Canadian architecture which include pre-Confederation architecture of Eastern Ontario; modern Gothic; the Citadel.

The researcher should also consult the National Gallery of Canada, Correspondence and Government House, Correspondence series for further material relating to the National Gallery, Government House and many of the individuals mentioned in this series. The various Writings and Research series also contain information on viceregal persons and government houses.
