Series consists of material of many types in a very roughly chronological arrangement. Included among the loose items are three additional letters from William Baker, n.d. and 1799 (reel M-7772, pp. 596-599, 630-640, and 973-976.

Of particular note are several bound volumes: a letterbook, 27 November 1810 - 9 May 1811 (pp. 84-140); a book of accounts with Martins, Stones and Foote, 1803-1807 (pp. 141-157); Captains' letterbook, 12 November 1806 - 24 October 1812 (pp. 158-322); Newfoundland letterbook, 10 April 1810 - 15 March 1813 (pp. 323-469); and letterbook of letters received as well as sent, 8 February 1793 - 7 September 1795, with a general index to orders received (pp. 993-1274).

The series also includes: a letterbook of 225 private letters received and sent, 24 July 1796 - 4 August 1799 (reel M-7773, pp. 1-184); letterbook of 227 letters received and sent relating to H.M.S. LEVIATHAN, 4 July 1796 - 17 December 1797, plus order book of H.M.S. LEVIATHAN, 29 June 1796 - 27 May 1797 (pp. 185-259, 260-355); and letter book and index, 23 April 1797 - 12 June 1798, with order book, 26 April 1797 - 11 June 1798 (pp. 356-450, 455-525).

In addition, the series includes: a register of letters received, 21 January 1799 - 31 October 1806 (pp. 526-544); register of letters written 8 October 1806 - 17 May 1807 (pp. 545-560); letterbook, Admiralty and Commander-in-Chief, 25 June 1809 - 19 July 1809, 14 January 1804 - 15 April 1809 (pp. 648-652, 653-1118); and order book and index, 17 January 1807 - 20 March 1812 (pp. 1129-1386).
