Files in this series are grouped by type of record; agendas, speeches on paper and on electronic form, subject files : Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. They are arranged chronologically with the exception of the "Black Binders" and oversized items which were placed at the end of the series.
Series includes many noteworthy items in this series. They include his agenda books planners, correspondence and invitations to speak. There are also files on conferences he attended and notes on speeches he gave. There is a complete transcript of interviews conducted by Robert Sharpe for the Osgoode Society (the originals are held by the Society).
Series includes files documenting his work on the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Special Commission on Restructuring of the Reserves, the Special Advisory Group on Military Justice and the Military Police Investigation Services. His work on a major arbitration case involving Ontario Hydro and Denison Mines is also well documented.
Series also includes files documenting awards he received including his appointment to the Companion of the Order of Canada. There are files documenting his views on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and on the Canadian Constitution.
Series also includes material contained in "Black Binders" which Brian Dickson had compiled and maintained throughout his career. A large portion of the the "Black Binders" consists of photocopies of articles from journals. They also contain speeches given by Mr. Dickson as well as speeches by others that Mr. Dickson collected over the years. Volumes 157 and 195 include lists of speeches and articles contained in the black binders. They are not comprehensive.
