Item consists of a television documentary about the 26th (New Brunswick) Battalion, nicknamed the Fighting 26th, which trained in Saint John, New Brunswick and went overseas on June 15, 1915. More than 6,000 men enlisted, mostly from New Brunswick, and 90 percent of them never came back. Historians H.M. "Mac" Heckbert, S. Douglas MacGowan and Byron E. O'Leary wrote the story of the battalion, based in part on the diary of Lieutenant Graham McKnight. The documentary uses archival film to tell the story of the battalion, including excerpts of the Animated Universal Weekly newsreel showing the 26th Battalion marching in Saint John before leaving for Europe.
