Canada. Canadian Forces Station (Yorkton, Sask.) : The agreement between Canada and the United States of America Air Defence Programme (Ground) in December 1958 called for Canada covering all construction and unit equipment costs while the United States payed for all technical equipment in the construction of the Canadian Pinetree radar lines. RCAF Yorkton and 46 Radar Squadron at White Spruce, Saskatchewan, became operational in 1963 and was designated as a heavy radar site to tie it into the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment System, and along with Penhold, Dana, Gypsumville and Alsask, they were tasked to fill radar gaps in Western Canada. On 10 August 1967 46 Radar Squadron was redesignated as CFS Yorkton. As a component of Air Defence Command it was to provide long range radar and ground-air transmitter-receiving facility in the Great Falls NORAD sector of the 29th NORAD Region. During much of the 1970s and early 80s Yorkton took part in various NORAD defence and alert response exercises. CFS Yorkton was disbanded on 1 August 1986. RG 24 General Inventory
