Public Works Canada. Western Region : The Western Region comprises the three prairie Provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, plus most of the Northwest Territories. Its central office is in Edmonton but also includes district offices in Banff, Calgary, Winnipeg and Regina.
Starting in 1967, the management of regional operations became decentralized and the department reorganized into six regional offices that would have greater autonomy over the management of projects. One of the central principles behind the organization of the department was "a conviction of the need to decentralize operations as much as possible, while providing for the required centralized planning and control." The six regional directors-general report directly to the Deputy Minister through the Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations and have equivalent organizational status as the heads of the functional divisions at headquarters. The regional directors-general are responsible for managing departmental operations and directing ongoing operations in the regions.Additional information:Source of title:Title is based on the contents of the series.Accruals:Further accruals are expected.Source:GovernmentFormer archival reference no.:RG11-G -
