Cartographic material, architectural drawings, technical drawings (Paper) Finding aid consists of a two volume alphabetical index by the name to the railway, a six volume alphabetical index by location, and a numerical card index by plan roll. These indexes were copied from RG12, vols. 998-1002 and are available on microfilm reel C-6823. Refer to the numerical index for descriptions of the items and for the storage locations. Sub-series consist of approximately 30,000 index cards which were created as contemporary indices to the numbered files of the Railway Branch of the former Department of Railways and Canals (the records themselves are located in RG43-A-I-2) as well as to the central registry files of the Department of Transport (RG12-A-1). The indexes include an alphabetical index by railway company for the Department of Railways and Canals files, 1901-1937 (Vols. 978-979, 4250; reel C-6819). A chronological index to Orders in Council for railways, 1893-1937 (Vol. 980; reel C-6819). A subject index to Canadian Government Railways for the Department of Railways and Canals files, 1901-1937 (Vol. 981, 4251; reel C-6819). An alphabetical index by location for Department of Railways and Canals files, 1901-1937 (Vols. 982-987, 4252; reels C-6819, C-6820). An alphabetical index by firm, person or location for Transport Canada central registry files containing correspondence created by the Departments of Public Works and Railways and Canals, ca.1870-1885 (Vols. 988-989, 4253; reels C-6821, C-6822).

Sub-series also includes plans of Canadian railway construction projects, primarily consisting of railway right-of-ways, profiles and bridges.
