During the Second World War, the Radio Division was separated from Air Services to act as a stand alone branch. The Radio Division was responsible for the regulation, licensing and inspection of commercial and amateur radio stations, including the early operations of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1950, the Radio Division was renamed Telecommunications Division and later changed to the Telecommunications and Electronics Branch (TEB).
