Royal Canadian Mounted Police. C Division : The original force of the NWMP marched west out of Fort Dufferin in July 1874. At the end of this march, the "B", "C", and "F" divisions founded Fort Macleod in October 1874. The "C" division remained at Fort Macleod until 1886. Along with the "D" division, the "C" division was the main force at Macleod while in served as headquarters for the NWMP from 1876 to 1878. In 1886, the "C" division was relocated to Battleford, the main site of the 1885 Northwest Rebellion. They remained in Battleford until 1919. In 1919, the "C" division was disbanded and Battleford became an outpost of the newly created North Saskatchewan district commanded by the "F" division at Prince Albert. When the RCMP was formed in 1920, the "C" division was recreated and stationed at Brandon, Manitoba to be one of two divisions policing the province. In 1922, they were once again disbanded and Brandon became an outpost of the Manitoba district commanded by the "D" division at Winnipeg. No "C" division existed from 1922 until 1932. In 1932, the "C" division was recreated out of troops stationed at various posts to police the Quebec district. This district originally contained posts in the eastern Northwest Territories. In 1933, the district was reduced to include only the province of Quebec, with headquarters at Montreal, where the "C" division has policed Quebec ever since.
