Series consists of records created and/or maintained by B Division. The records include records created while the division was located in Dawson (1898-1938). The Yukon records include letterbooks, general and special orders, daily journals, subject files and sketches and plans for police reserves in the Yukon.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police. B Division : The original force of the NWMP marched west out of Fort Dufferin in July 1874. At the end of this march, the "B", "C", and "F" divisions founded Fort Macleod in October 1874. The "B" division was reallocated to the Cypress Hills, the site of the 1873 Cypress Hills Massacre, in 1875. There, they founded Fort Walsh in June 1875. They remained at Fort Walsh for four years. During this time, the "B" division erected the Wood Mountain outpost, which became an important site for Sioux refugees under Sitting Bull and often served as the de facto command center of the "B" division. Due to its strategic location close to the American border, Fort Walsh became the headquarters of the NWMP from 1878 to 1882. In 1880, "B" division was relocated to Fort Qu'Appelle, which was to be the headquarters of the new Eastern district covering present-day southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba. A year later in 1882, the "B" division moved to Regina, which was established as the new headquarters of the NWMP. They remained in Regina until 1895, when they were amalgamated into the Depot Division also in Regina. No "B" division existed from 1895 to 1897. Through the 1890s, all divisions were sending troops to the Yukon Territory. In 1898, these troops were reorganized into new "B" and "H" divisions. The "B" division was stationed in Dawson, where they remained until 1938. In 1919, the "B" division was made responsible for the entirety of the newly established Yukon district. In 1938, the "B" division was disbanded and folded into the "G" division responsible for the Northwest Territories and Yukon districts. No "B" division existed from 1938 until 1949. In 1949 when Newfoundland joined confederation, the old Newfoundland Rangers were organized into a new "B" division. They were assigned to St. John's, where they currently remain.
