Series consists of records maintained in the 1906 central registry system of the Department of Trade And Commerce. In 1906 the Department of Trade and Commerce established a new numerical registry system whereby the files were numbered according to the order in which they were created. In some instances correspondence from the earlier registry and from predecessor agencies such as the Department of Finance was brought forward and incorporated into the system. Some items of correspondence date from the early 1880's. In 1911 the Department of Trade and Commerce underwent a reorganization and purged its records, destroying the 1902 to 1910 correspondence. This explains the fact that most files in this registry system were created after 1911.
