Series consists of British Foreign Office records retained by the Department of External Affairs for use in the conduct of Canada's foreign affairs. In the early 1800's the British Foreign Office began the practice of printing these documents that were thought to be of great interest or importance. They were circulated to members of the British Cabinet, countries of the empire, missions abroad and to other government officials and departments. The prints may consist of a single document concerning one subject or a number of despatches, telegrams, memoranda, reports and other papers grouped together pertaining to a particular country or subject. The series includes intelligence documents relating to the First World War; Committee of Imperial Defence despatches; daily war telegrams, resumes of the Naval, Military and Air situation, and weekly political intelligence summaries relating to the Second World War.
