Series consists of central registry files created and/or maintained by the Occupational Safety and Health Branch and its predecessors. These files detail broadly the work of the Branch and its predecessors. A large portion of the records cover the Branch's relationship and correspondence with other public and private bodies in Canada interested in safety and health in the work place. One set of files deal with the Branch's work with the Government Employees' Compensation Act between 1939 and 1955 while another deals with investigation of complaints reported to the Ottawa district office from eastern and northern Ontario between 1968 and 1981. Other files, generated by the Sydney N.S. office of Labour Canada, contain reports and investigations of health and safety violations on accidents in Cape Breton. Safety consultants inspections and recommendations provide data about particular incidents in the mines and industries of the region.

Moving images consist of Chapters 1-6 of the series entitled Industrial Safety: Accidents Don't Happen.

The series also includes three posters created by the Department of Labour promoting safe workplace practices, tool and equipment maintenance, and etiquette around workplace rumours.

Canada. Labour Canada. Occupational Safety and Health : The Occupational Safety and Health Branch is responsible for protecting Canadian workers under federal jurisdiction from employment hazards and for compensating them when injuries or illnesses occur. Gradually over the years the pieces of legislation and regulations for which the Branch and the predecessors have been responsible have come to be concentrated in Part IV of the Canada Labour Code. The Branch offers highly specialized technical information to Canadian employers and workers on such topics as safety and hygiene engineering, occupational medicine, client education and employment injury compensation. In addition the Branch is responsible for the administration of the Government Employees Compensation Act (which provides workers' compensation benefits for 350,000 employees of the federal government) and for the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Act.
