This is a preliminary description. Please consult the linked accessions. Series of files is from CN Linguistic Services. The general function of the department (until Air Canada was privatized in the late 1980s) was to supply translation (the language training program began in 1963), terminology, and language training to CN and Air Canada departments in accordance with company policies. The department also acted in an advisory capacity with respect to policy setting and program development.

The records concern a variety of language-related subjects such as the planning and implementation of CN's bilingual programme, language training initiatives, annual linguistic services reports, translation services and CN-produced bilingual equipment terminology booklets.

Various photographs document various training courses for CN and Air Canada employees.
