Series consists of eleven National Archives Library accession books which record library acquisitions from 1907 to 1953. The volumes are arranged in chronological fashion as well as by accession numbers. A twelfth, over-size volume records research inquiries by the Library between 1956 and 1965.

Public Archives of Canada. Library : The Public Archives Library was established in 1872, and initially focused upon the collection of publications, especially those of the Canadian Parliament and the federal and provincial governments. It did not, however, become a separate administration unit within the Archives until 1925 when it became a Division and established library services. Between 1935 and 1953 the focus of the library's activities shifted as it worked to become a documentation centre in Canadian history.

As such it developed a collection in history and its related sciences. After the establishment of the National Library of Canada in 1953, the Archives Library developed a more specialized role as a research library in such fields as Canadian history and archives administration. During these years, the Library has remained a Division within the Archives, first as of the Historical Branch (1965), later as part of the Archives Branch (1975), and most recently as part of the Public Programs Branch (1986). Since 1986, the Library has worked to establish a documentary centre on archival science as part of its mandate. RG37 General Inventory
