Interdepartmental Committee on Air Surveys (Canada) : The activities of the Interdepartmental Committee on Air Surveys began with early experimentation in 1923 and led to the creation of the Central Aerial Surveying Unit (PC 180, 7 Feb. 1925). This joint initiative pooled the resources of the Geodetic, Geological and Military Surveys, the Royal Canadian Air Force, Dominion Forestry Service, Dominion Water Power and Dominion Parks Branches. In 1933 the committee was officially constituted as the Interdepartmental Committee on Air Surveys. The ICAS was responsible for coordinating government air surveys, instituting uniform procedures, as well as improving equipment and techniques.
