Series consists of lists produced regularly of officers and men taken on strength, struck off strength, promoted, demoted, punished, whose pay was withheld, decorated, absent, killed, wounded and sick, taken prisoner and missing. The Part II Daily Orders were prepared by the administrative personnel of each Canadian Expeditionary Force unit as a regular requirement, and forwarded to the Canadian Records Office in London, where they were used to administer activity related to personnel. The Part II Daily Orders were the basic instrument for compiling statistics on Canadian Expeditionary Force strengths and casualties for the War Office and Canadian authorities ["Part II Orders are one of the most important items which affect the routine of this Office. All entries in records emanate therefrom." ( RG9-III-B-3, Vol. 3755, "Memorandum re: Record Office 1916", p. 228)].
