Sub-series consists of records created and maintained by the lockmaster at Lower Brewers', on the Rideau Canal. The records include statements of work to be done, 1850-1851; return of stores and equipment, 1851-1855; copies of correspondence, 1851-1852; weekly reports on work and repairs in progress, 1846-1860, 1872-1874; water levels 1848-1862; statements recording number of lockages, sums received and labourers paid, 1854-1856, 1872-1874; and lockmaster's journals, 1853-1856; 1872-1874.

Canada. Dept. of Public Works. Lockmaster (Lower Brewers', Ont.) : The lockmaster at Lower Brewers' on the Rideau Canal was in direct charge of the lock station and reported to the Superintending Engineer of the Rideau Canal. The lockmaster enforced canal regulations, compiled statistics, supervised labourers, and prepared journals and reports. RG43 General Inventory
