Scope and content:

This album, comprised of 20 pages on which 70 photographs are mounted, consists of the development of Chesterfield, Baffin Island; mainly of the buildings and people that live there, especially the mission hospital. Photos by various photographers, such as W.H.B. Hoare (1929, 1930), D.L. McKeand (1935), L.T. Burwash (1926, 1931), L.D. Morin (1929), and L.D. Livingstone (1936). There are also four aerial photographs from the R.C.A.F. of the area (same as album 46). The Burwash photographs from 1926 are exclusively portraits of "Native types".

This originally was a series level examination of photographs by L.D. Livingstone undertaken by Inuit Art Foundation Fellow July Papatsie, November 1995; but this has been revised according to instructions from Jim Burant in July 2003.

Album treated and recontainerized in 2012, as part of album recontainerization project.

Custodial history:

This album was originally part of accession 1974-366, which had been integrated into 1973-357. It has since been separated back into the two individual accessions of 1973-357 and 1974-366.
