This album, comprised of 112 pages on which 401 photographs are mounted, consists mainly of landscapes and people of the Arctic. Photos by L.T. Burwash, investigator for the Department of the Interior. Burwash was sent on government expeditions to investigate a number of issues, such as wild life, biology, natural resources, as well as an Inuit census. He travelled on the C.G.S. Arctic and by dog sled while on land. There are photographs of the Inuit of Pond Inlet who murdered hunter R.S. Janes in 1920. There are many photos of Dorset and its surrounding area.

Note générale :

This originally was a series level examination of photographs by L.T. Burwash undertaken by Inuit Art Foundation Fellow July Papatsie, November 1995; but this has been revised according to instructions from Jim Burant in July 2003.

Note sur l'état de conservation :

The front cover is almost disconnected from the binding, therefore pages are fragile. The photographs are deteriorating, there needs to be interleaving. The caption writing is fading.
This note is obsolete. Some conservation work was done on this album as part of the recontainerization project of 2012.

Historique de la conservation :

This album was originally part of accession 1974-366, which had been integrated into 1973-357. It has since been separated back into the two individual accessions of 1973-357 and 1974-366.
