Sub-series consists of correspondence, post due bills of different branches, samples of deposit slips, account books, balance sheets, journals and ledgers from the Bank of Upper Canada. As a result of an official investigation begun by the Department of Finance in 1862, the Government transferred the accounts of the Bank of Upper Canada to the Bank of Montreal. Four years later, the bank failed and, in 1870, all the property was turned over to the Crown, which redeemed liabilities at 70 cents on the dollar. As the records were received unorganized, the correspondence was arbitrarily arranged in chronological order. Vols. 4642-4643 includes various records related to conveyances, indentures of bargain and sale, and mortgages held by the Bank of Upper Canada.
