Materials include research notes for his publication "Canada Post Offices 1755-1895", 1940-1951; transcript for "Opening and Closing Dates of Canadian Post Offices", ca. 1952; five publications written by Mr. Campbell, 1958-1962; and correspondence between Frank Campbell and fellow philatelists, 1944-1966.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Campbell, Frank W., 1885-1983 : Frank W. Campbell was born August 25, 1885 of Scotch-French ancestry, at Tilbury, Ontario. He worked as a printer\typesetter travelling around Canada and the United States. He moved to the United States in 1895, married his wife Helen in 1926, and located themselves in Royal Oak, Michigan. There he purchased a greenhouse and began a garden and landscape nursery business. Mr. Campbell served in the Canadian Militia and was in the U.S. Army occupation of Germany in the 1930's. He resided in Royal Oak until his death in 1983. As a young boy of ten, Frank Campbell began collecting and studying stamps. He began studying postal history with family letters in the early 1920's. For over forty years he created a list of Canada Post Offices. His philatelic interests were Admirals, Canadian precancels, revenues, and postal markings. Mr. Campbell became a fellow of the Canadian Philatelic Society of Great Britain and the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada in 1953. In 1974 he was awarded Postal Historian of the Year by the Western Canada Postal History Society. Then in 1975 he received the Postal History Society of Ontario's first "Citation of Merit" in recognition of his contributions to Canadian postal history. Mr. Frank Campbell wrote several books and articles about postal history. He contributed many short articles for stamp periodicals, such as BNA Topics, and Canadian Philatelist. He completed "Canada Post Offices 1755-1895" and "Canada Postal History" in 1958. He sold his book privately until it was published in 1972, but continued to document changes of this book until his death. Mr. Campbell collaborated with Harry Konwiser in producing "The Canadian and Newfoundland Stampless Cover Catalogue in 1946, then in 1971, he was co-editor with J.N. Sissons, and created the BNA section of the "American Stampless Cover Catalogue".
