Royal Commission on Financial Arrangements between the Dominion and the Maritime Provinces (Canada) : The Royal Commission on Financial Arrangements Between the Dominion and the Maritime Provinces was established under Order in Council P.C. 2231, 14 September 1934, under Part I of the Inquiries Act (R.S.C., 1927, c.99) and on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance. The Commission was mandated to inquire into and deal with the recommendation of the Royal Commission on Maritime Claims of 1926 (Duncan Commission) that there be a revision of the financial arrangements between the dominion government and the Maritime provinces. The commissioners were William Thomas White, Chairman, John Alexander Mathieson and Edward Walter Nesbitt. The secretary was C.H. Payne.

As a result of an interprovincial conference, held in January 1933, the premiers of the three Maritime provinces and the prime minister, agreed that a federal royal commission should be established to deal with a recommendation of the Duncan Commission. The Duncan Commission, or the Royal Commission on Maritime Claims, had been constituted by Order in Council P.C. 505, dated 7 April 1926, to inquire into representations made to the Government of Canada on economic conditions and claims of the people of the Maritime Provinces. On 16 January 1934, the premiers of the Maritime Provinces sent a letter to the prime minister requesting "that a commission be now set up to take under consideration and deal with the recommendation of the Duncan Commission that there be a revision of the financial arrangements between the Dominion Government and the Maritime Provinces." The federal government reacted favourably on the concerns of the Maritime premiers by establishing a royal commission in September 1934 (see Order in Council P.C. 2231, 14 September 1934).

Hearings of the Commission were held in Ottawa on 17 October 1934 and from 24 January to 31 January 1935. The Maritime provinces were represented at the commission's proceedings by their premiers and other government officials. RG33-19 general inventory
