Album of 12 still photographic prints, one of three albums bequested to Canada by Princess Louise, wife of His Excellency the Marquis of Lorne who served as Governor General of Canada from 1878 until 1883.
Album entitled "A Souvenir of Victoria", presented to Princess Louise by several female Victorian artists in 1882 during her tour of western Canada. The album contains photos as well as drawings and watercolours depicting scenes of Victoria and three pressed plant arrangements. Out of the eighteen pieces of artwork in the album fifteen are signed by the artists. There are several well known artists who participated in the creation of the album such as Sophie Pemberton, May R. Hibben, Emily H. Woods, Rhoda Cridge, Ada Newton, W. Beaven, H.F.L. Wolfenden, Helen Kate Andrew, Florence Newton, and A.C. Richardson. Photographic views include the Cariboo-wagon road, the Wellington Colliery Railway, Nanaimo, Victoria, Yale and New Westminster in 1882. Photographer unknown.

General note:

The original album contained a diversity of still photographic prints, pressed flowers, leaves and various watercolours and sketches presented by the scholars of the High and Public Schools of Victoria, British Columbia to Princess Louise on October 27, 1882. The twelve photographs and the front and back album cover were separated from the rest of the items to prevent deterioration.

Custodial history:

The High Commission of Canada in England received the album from Princess Louise and transferred it to External Affairs. The Public Archives of Canada then acquired the album from External Affairs.
